Spot the female leopard has sadly had to be put down following the discovery of arthritis in her second hind leg - she had already been suffering from the condition in one hind leg. She had been born at the Zoo on June 1 1990, and was the oldest member of the cat sanctuary. |

A 10-year old male Cheetah called Karsai has arrived from Fota Wildlife Park, County Cork, Ireland. He will hopefully be joined by a female to form a breeding pair. |

Eleven flamingo chicks hatched from eggs supplied (on permanent loan) by Slimbridge. They are currently being hand-reared but have already joined the existing flock in a refurbished enclosure that features a walk-through path fro visitors. |

Three Red-bellied Tamarins, one male and two females, have arrived from Belfast Zoo. The tamarins are part of a European Breeding Programme, and will join two Pygmy Marmosets and a Geoffroy's Marmoset in a newly refurbished enclosure. |

A male baby Takin has been born, the first in the UK of this endangered species, an unusual type of goat-antelope. He has been named Chien Po and can be seen with parents Mulan and Mooshu in the Roof of the World exhibit; the species come from the eastern Himalyan forests. |

The pair of Silvery Marmosets, Jazz and Captain Jack, and a group of Geoffroy's Marmosets have been stolen. They were, however, recovered by the police 11 days later, along with 14 other monkeys stolen from zoos in Devon and Cambridgeshire. |

A rare Red Panda cub has been born, the third for its mother, Li Yee. Unfortunately, both previous cubs did not survive, but the third has so far been doing well. |

Four African Lion cubs were born 8 weeks ago and have now joined the rest of the pride in the outdoor enclosure. These are the first successful lion cubs born at Whipsnade for 30 years. |

A mob of Meerkats have arrived in their desert-inspired enclosure, part of the newly-opened Creature Features area. This area also houses Wallabies, Rhea, Skunks, Rabbits and Guinea Pigs. |

A male Greater One-horned Rhino called Fanindra has arrived from Plankendaal Zoo, Belgium. He is to be joined by another male from Switzerland in September, and the Indian Rhinos at the zoo are part of an international conservation breeding programme for this species. |
