Arrival: Paignton Zoo

A male Rothschild's Giraffe called Yoda has arrived from Givskud Zoo in Denmark. He is the first of the replacements for the three who were killed in the fire in February. It is hoped that two females will join him next year. |

Three babies were born last night - a male Rothschild's Giraffe, the third calf to be born at Woburn in less than two years, and Cotton-eared Marmoset twins. |

Mamfe the gorilla, one of the zoo's oldest residents, has sadly died. He was the founder member of the zoo's first breeding group of gorillas, and sired three babies. Born in 1973 at Jersey Zoo (now Durrell Wildlife), he was the son of the famous Jambo who saved the little boy who fell into the enclosure. |

A male Sulawesi (tarictic) Hornbill chick has been born, and has now been allowed out of the nest by his parents. This is the first chick of this species to be born in the UK. |

Paignton Zoo's new Monkey Heights exhibit is now officially open. The project, started in 2003, has been opened to the public in stages, and is now complete. The complex is home to Diana Monkeys, King (Black & White) and Abyssinian Colobus Monkeys, and Sulawesi Crested Black Macaques, together with a variety of small mammals including Tree Shrews, Pygmy Slow Loris, Mouse Deer, Chilean Pudu, Prevost's Squirrel, and Emporer Tamarins. |

Male South American Tapir calf, Zak, born, the fifth calf for parents Jennifer and Cuzco. Two Vicuna born. Vicuna are the smallest and most endangered of the South American camels, closely related to the Llama, Guanaco, and Alpaca. Other recent arrivals include 2 Western Grey Kangaroos, a West African Sitatunga. Hyacinth Macaw, Congo Buffalo, 2 Caribbean Flamingoes, a Geoffroy's Marmoset, and a Red River Hog. A young female Okapi has also arrived from Stuttgart Zoo. This is the first female for Chester Zoo, previously having 2 males, one of which was transferred to London zoo in May. |

A small herd of Roan Antelope (2 males and 3 females) have arrived from Marwell Zoo, and have moved into the mixed species African Experience enclosure. One of the females has also since given birth to calf. |

Three female Sumatran Tiger cubs born to parents Ratna and Batu, their first litter. The parents were brought together about 2 years ago as part of the international breeding programme for this critically endangered species. |

Five baby Mara, an large deer-like rodent from South America, have been born, bringing Marwell's group up to 25. |
