A young male Sumatran Tiger called Kepala has arrived from Dudley Zoo. It is hoped that a female will join him in the next year to form a new breeding pair for this critically endangered species (less than 400 left), which is the smallest and most distinctive of Tigers. Kepala will temporarily share his home with the existing pair of Bengal Tigers, Kahli and Rhani, until his new partner arrives. |

A colt Przewalski Horse foal has been born, good news for this highly endangered species. Until recently, when a reintroduction programme was initiated in China, Mongolia and Kazakstan, the species was extinct in the wild. The entire world population is descended from the 31 horses that were in captivity in 1945, and most of those are descended from the 15 brought to Woburn by the 11th Duke of Bedford in the 1900s. |

Five Pallas Cat kittens have been born, to parents Rhiannan and Rasputin. This is Rhiannan's first litter, but she is proving to be a very good mother. The kittens are particularly good news because their parents are part of a European Breeding Programme, due to Pallas Cats being threatened in the wild as a result of shortage of prey caused by spreading human populations. |
