Description
The Butterfly and Wildlife Park is located on the northern edge of Long Sutton in Lincolnshire, just off the main A17 King's Lynn to Spalding road, and 7 miles north of Wisbech. The Park has one of the largest tropical houses in the country, which is home to hundreds of exotic butterflies and birds from around the world, all flying free in a natural-looking setting of tropical plants.
Reptile Land is another part of the tropical hose, with crocodiles and a selection of snakes, lizards, chameleons, and frogs. The adjacent Insect Gallery house is home to a collection scorpions, tarantulas, giant millipedes, and other insects. A separate Ant Room displays a colony of leaf-cutting ants.
Besides the Tropical House, the Butterfly and Wildlife Park has 15 acres of herbaceous and herb gardens and wildflower walks, including special butterfly gardens design to attract native species. The gardens are home to a collection of other animals, including wallabies, llamas, water buffalo, red squirrels, chipmunks, and Britain's only breeding colony of possums. There is also a selection of farm animals and pets, and a collection of pheasants from around the world.
The Park is also home to the Lincolnshire Birds Of Prey Centre, with a selection of owls, falcons, hawks, buzzards, vultures, and eagles, including an American Bald Eagle. Some of these birds are used in the daily flying displays.
To keep the children occupied, besides the animals, the Park also has an adventure playground, a toddler's play area, crazy golf, and coin-operated ride-on tractors. There are picnic areas, some under cover, and the licensed tea rooms serve a selection of hot and cold home made meals and light snacks.
For those who want a more involving day out, the Park offers Zoo Keeper experience days, and the Birds of Prey centre offers handling days and courses. These are all at extra charge, see the official website for details.
