Description
Suffolk Wildlife Park was acquired by Banham Zoo in 1991 with the idea of creating a first-class animal park. The theme of `animals from the African continent' was quickly decided upon, and 15 years later, on Tuesday 21 March 2006, the Park officially took on its new name of Africa Alive!
Africa Alive is designed as a walking family safari and is one of the UK's largest and most exciting wildlife attractions. The Park is set amidst 100 acres of dramatic coastal parkland against the backdrop of the Benacre marshes. Many of the animals roam freely together, as in the wild, in a re-creation of the African Savannah. To enhance your viewing experience, special themed viewing points are also provided. A free safari road train with live commentary also operates throughout the day, to ease your progress around the park.
A variety of feeding sessions and other displays are also held regularly, complete with talks by the staff caring for the animals. See the notice boards around the park for details of times, etc.
Of particular interest to the children is the Farm Yard Corner, where they can touch and feed some of the animals. There is also an adventure playground and an indoor soft play area.
Africa Alive is committed to conservation of rare and endangered animals from around the world, as is its big sister park, Banham Zoo.
