Description

Beale Park is located on the banks of the River Thames near Reading in Berkshire, at Lower Basildon, between Pangbourne and Streatley. The park is open daily from the beginning of March until the end of October, and is home to a fine collection of rare and endangered birds, together with a selection of other animals. Beale Park is a major attraction for visitors of all ages. Set in attractive and relaxing gardens beside the River Thames, the park features a large collection of water birds, many of which are free to roam around the park between its several large ponds. Aviaries house the remainder of the bird collection, which includes a good selection of owls, and an Australian-themed aviary that visitors can walk through.

In additions to its large collection of birds, Beale Park also features a variety of other animals, including meerkats, wallabies, ring-tailed lemurs, tamarins, marmosets, squirrel monkeys and three species of deer (Fallow, Sika, and Axis).

For the children, there is a pets corner, paddling pool, sandpit, adventure playground, and Little Tikes Village and Indoor Soft Play Area. A steam and diesel operated narrow-gauge railway carries visitors the length of the park. There is also good access throughout the park for wheelchair and buggy users.

During the summer months, a short round-trip river cruise is also available on the Thames. The park can also be reached this way from Caversham (Reading), with intermediate stops at Purley on Thames (Mapledurham Lock) and Pangbourne (Swan Public House).

The park also specialises in the captive breeding of rare birds, an activity that is funded mainly by ticket receipts for the park. So by simply visiting the park and enjoying its many attractions, visitors help to support these important conservation activities.
